Notes: The Merlin of Moslavina achieves true Škrlet magic with his Selekcija range , which he only makes from hand-selected grapes and only in exceptional harvests and vintages. He ended up waiting 6 years after his inaugural iconic vintage of 2011 Skrlet Selekcija, and now we are graced with a bit of his 2019, with only 1,300 bottles being produced. In this range, he shows the immense depth and beauty that this nearly forgotten varietal can make something extraordinary. Extended maceration offers layers-on-layers of complexity and displays beautiful minerality, while showing intense candied orange peel and quince paste, with notes of wild chamomile, shaved ginger, and subtle acacia. Ivan was one of the first to put Skrlet on the map, and this wine is one that shows the true potential of the immensely great wines this grape can achieve.

Winery Information

Kosovec

In a small rural village named Popovača, located in the Moslavina region about 60 kilometers southeast of Zagreb, lies the humble winery of Ivan Kosovec and his family. They own 3 hectares of vineyard (all planted in 2005) in one of the finest sites in the Moslavina region, with a total of 18,000 vines, which amounts to around 6,250 vines per hectare.

The primary focus here is the indigenous varietal Škrlet, once nearly extinct and now only grown in the Moslavina region. Additionally, Ivan cultivates other varieties such as Chardonnay, Zweigelt, Frankovka (Blaufränkisch), and Pinot Noir.
