Climate: Continental cool climate, with snowy and cold winters, and sunny and mild spring, with sun-drenching summers.
Terrain: The terrain of the entire Štajerska region is made up of steep-sloped vineyards and narrow, wind-rich hill valleys. A diverse geological soil composition, consisting mainly of sand and clay with marl in the lower layers. The vineyards is located on steep 30-45˚ slope with southern-exposure, 350 meters above sea level.
Farming: Organic in practice; environmentally friendly cultivation, following the integrated farming guidelines of Slovenia.
Vinification: Manual harvest of totally clean, healthy grapes, de-stemmed, all co-fermented and macerated on the skins in small open vats for 14 days, then is pressed into concrete egg and aged 12 months until bottling. Bottled with very little sulfur addition and without filtration.
Notes: Rado makes wines of tremendous vivacity and brightness. Skinzy was meant to be a macerated field blend to showcase the variety of indigenous varietals on their small hillside, while trying to maintain a level of liveliness and freshness that you get from the Dramlje terroir and still balancing the fun and exotic notes from the skin contact. Starting with the 2024 vintage, Rado has been making and ageing this wine in concrete egg, which has added so many extra layers to the wine including tremendous aromatics, texture on the plate and longer minerality. Rado's family's vineyards are fairly high elevation and in a cooler area; This combined with the fact that his cellar is a teeny underground stone cellar that maintains a constant ambient low temperature, it allows for his delicate style; Gentle and slow natural fermentations that produce elegant wines with lower alcohol.
