Vinification: Manual harvest, slightly raisinated grapes, destemmed, naturally fermented in open vats with manual punchdowns, 7 days maceration. 10-12 months in 225-liter French oak barrels, 15% new oak, coarse filtration, one year in bottles before release.
Tasting Notes: A few miles NW along the coastal road, and second to the fame of Dingač, lies the vineyard site and appellation of Postup.
Like Dingač, Postup is home to exclusively Plavac Mali vines with tremendous exposure from steep slopes towering over the Adriatic sea, producing bold, powerful and sometimes off-dry wines. Yet contrasting Dingač, Postup can be known for its nuanced aromatics and herbal notes from the mixed and ancient wild botanicals intermingled in the vineyards.
'Mare ' is the short name of the matriarch of the Bura-Mrgudić, Marija, whom led her family's winery as on of the first private wineries in Dalmatia following Croatia's independence. Like Mare Postup, Marija exhibits elegance, beauty and grace, yet always balanced with the strength and self-determination to carry her family and region's legacy forward into a new generation. On the nose are warm aromatics, like a big warm hug, and on the palate there's lots of plush velvet tannins, black plum, dark cherry and notes of cacao, with a touch of Adriatic sea breeze, garrigue, and fish oil. Pair with a hearty meal and get cozy!
