We are proud to announce the arrival of Lacanosa Wines, an exciting addition to the Vinum portfolio of natural, terroir-driven wines.
Lacanosa Estate takes its name from Poggio Canoso, one of the four castles of the small town of Rotella in Ascoli Piceno province, in the southern Marche region. Here, among impressive mountains and charming valleys in the heart of Sibillini National Park, the young businessman Riccardo Reina fell in love with Marche lands so much so he decided to start this ambitious wine project.
The property covers a total of 100 hectares (247 acres) and lies on the 43rd parallel, the latitude particularly well suited to vine-growing and production of local montepulciano, sangiovese and pekorino. The vineyards extend for 25 hectares (62 acres) across Tesino Valley, from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea.
Thanks to different altitudes and exposures at disposal, Lacanosa vineyards layout favors the most balanced ripening of berries, allowing the winemaker to create authentic wines faithfully expressing the terroir. This is why Pecorino is planted at about 400 meters a.s.l. facing north, Sangiovese faces south, at a higher altitude, and Montepulciano is at about 250 m a.s.l., facing southeast.
In both white and red wines, the distinctive salty sensation is linked to the mineral content of the soils. Olfactory and taste sensations of moss, mint and lily of the valley featured in Lacanosa reds, along with strong and fragrant tannins, are also typical of the terroir and soil composition.
